Good news, our Canteen is now open on Saturday’s from 10AM until 10PM.

Start off your Saturday morning with a brunch at 10AM.

Volunteers are running the bar, and you are welcome to join our team.

Vets given special priority to the many positions at a very large, commercial baking facility in Lake Grove. Starting pay is $10/hour, but goes to $12-$14 after 90 day probationary period plus benefits. Must have vehicle, pass drug screen, have flexible schedule, work late hours and occasional weekends. Fund-raising and good times were had Aug. 14 in Tualatin

According to Sherri Colo’n of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 3452, they had a fund-raiser and open house Aug 14.

The Post was selected as the Grand Marshal for the Crawfish Festival Parade and had nine men and women with two military vehicles in the parade from the Oregon Army National Guard 141st Bridage, part of the 41st who just returned from Iraq in April.

After the parade, two girls, who would not be shown up by one of the male soldiers, volunteered to go into the VFW Dunk Tank at the Festival to help raise money for the VFW and had a great time.

After the festival, the Veteran’s Open House and Spaghetti Feed Fundraiser took place and turned out to be a great success, which included a single donation of $500. Colo’n said fund-raiser netted more money than “we were hoping for and made a lot of new friends and new members.” Also at the event were local police, senators, state representatives and their families, members from other VFW posts and veteran’s that didn’t know that there was a VFW post in Tualatin show up for the dinner.

Successful Crawfish Festival 2010

Our Post was honored today as the Grand Marshall for the 60th Annual Tualatin Crawfish Festival. We started out the parade in classic cars, a float, plus two Humvees provided by the National Guard. The Tualatin crowd honored the military and our VFW members with applause, waves and shouts of support along the parade route. Thanks to Shawn Berry for arranging our float and the Ladies Auxiliary (Pat Modlin) for decorating it.

At the Crawfish Festival the VFW Men’s Auxiliary raised money by operating a dunk tank where notables from our community were dunked for $1 a throw:

Parade
Just a reminder that all VFW members are invited to walk or ride in the parade on Saturday, August 14th. We are the Grand Marshal this year, so we go first. The parade starts at 10AM in the K-Mart parking lot however you must arrive early to walk or ride.

Anthony T. Justesen dies in Afghanistan

Pfc. Anthony T. Justesen, 22, of Wilsonville, Ore., died June 23 at Ganjkin village, Pusht Rod district, Farah province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to Troop B, 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Bud Smith passed away June 24, 2010 after a 12 year battle with cancer. His family has scheduled a military service at Willamette National cemetary at 11am of Monday August 2nd and will then have a memorial event at the Heritage Center at noon that day.
